A Teacher's Tool for the Improvement of Curriculum in an Introductory Computer Course in K-12 Education

چکیده

This paper presents ESCurr, a software application based on expert systems (ES) that assists teachers to improve the curriculum of introductory computer science courses in K12 education. ESCurr is a Web application that can be customized through the selection of specific inquiries related to the learning progress that would be appropriate to any group of students with certain characteristics according to the instructor's own discretion. After responding to the inquiries, the system then provides the instructor with a set of suggestions for making the curriculum more efficient. The core of ESCurr is an expert system that utilizes a knowledge base together with inferential reasoning to reach the conclusions that help the instructor to optimize the learning process. ESCurr can be installed in the main campus intranet portal that enables exchanges between the instructors thus increasing their collective participation in improving the curriculum.
